RE: Computer Problems

Well, at least for my situation I don't think it is the keyboard. I say that because it most often happens in FireFox and I have never seen it at all in IE. Once it happens, it wanders around randomly even outside the firsfox window. It only happens for about 10 seconds, so there is no time to close FireFox to see if the problem goes away.
I have FireFox also installed on Win2k, and it never happens.
In my situation I think it is FireFox for WinXP that has the problem, but I can not prove that.

RE: Computer Problems

I ahve had that problem for several years, intermittently, on WinXP, on some but not all of the computers I use.
I have never been able to figure it out. I am interested in any suggestions others might have.

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

I would think that any decent lawyer should be able to get a "specific performance" ruling. But, are you willing to pay more than $15,000.00 in attorney fees?
Settle for getting them permanently banned on EBay.

RE: List of RV Manufacturers that are closed or closing?

They are not all in trouble.
Trailmanor sales for February were up 16 percent compared to February of the previous year. East coast deliveries are up 30 percent in March.
"The company, which currently employs over 100, is adding 40 more people to boost production"
It looks like my manufacturer will be around for awhile. :)

RE: Phx to Yosemite

I would probably take AZ 95 north and cut over to CA 95 at Parker. The south part of CA 95 is pretty twisty.

RE: New Battery

What ever wire is connected to ground (the frame) is always connectd last. It is also disconnected first.
The reason is that when connecting/disconnecting the hot wire, if you accidentally touch the wrench to the frame you do not want it to spark.
So sayeth my autoshop teacher a very long time ago.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

What do you do if the computer's HD fails?
Restore from a backup copy on one of the other HD.
I have never had an HD fail, going all the way back the the first HD, 1.2 gig, in 1995.
I have upgraded to larger HDs over time. I still have all of the old ones. They still work. I just have no use for any drive smaller than 200 gig. Those are sitting in a drawer collecting dust, but they do have "backup" data on them, just in case.
Half of my computers have a single HD, the others have dual HDs.
I routinely move HDs around as I see fit. Sometimes I forget where things are.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

I also have all "my stuff" stored online, as I don't like the idea of losing "my stuff" because of some kind of disaster like fire, flood, tornado, etc. However, I also don't like the idea of having to have Web access in order to retrieve "my stuff". What if my computer's HD craps out and, for whatever reason, I don't have Web access and won't be able to get it for awhile? That would mean, of course, that no matter how bad I might need access to "my stuff", I'm out of luck during that period of time!
I think you misunderstood me.
When I am at home all of my data is online on my desktop computer. Because I run a web server (http), if I am away from the house I still have read access to most, but not all, of my data. My computer at home is the server, running Win/XP Pro.
I have the hard drive. If the computer fails, I just move the HD to one of my other 7 computers.
Web access is seconday. Primary access is just using the computer at home.

RE: Early 20s Considering Doing This

As long as you are funding your IRA or some other retirement account by 5k a year then it should work out long term, even if Social Security is not available to you in your future.
Makes sure you have decent medical, dental and disability insurance so you do not become a burden on taxpayers.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

Wayne,
Your right, I have about 40 GB of data. I should have stated that when I gave the time for the backup and verify. It also allows me to have the 7 different backup copies as a larger amount would increase the backup size and would require a larger usb drive or maybe multi usb drives. Luckily, most of the RV users I come across do not have your requirement for space.
45 minutes makes sense, about a gig a minute. So to copy my terabyte would be 1,000 minutes or about 16 hours.
Now you might comprehend why I run so darn many partitions. Many of my partitions have stuff that I never need to back up. Like my downloaded software.
A 40 gig HD would not even hold my photos. I like keeping them online. I run a http server, so I can access any photo from anywhere that can run a browser.
HD space these days is less than a quarter per gig. I don't offload anything. It is all online.

RE: Fallout from dealership collapse

Before you left the lot the dealer gave you temporary registration with your DMV. What does that registration say? Take the temp registration to DMV and tell them you have not yet received your title and plates.

RE: Question about TT refers

In a similar thread not too long ago I believe that someone pointed out that home style fridges do not tolerate vibration. If that were to be true just make sure you never move the trailer after you install the fridge and all should be fine.

RE: Flood victims have air bags deploy in cars w/o accident

The computer that controls the air bags in my 1996 Nissan Sentra is apparently under the drivers seat. I know this because I had to have it repaired a few weeks ago. Any water deeper than about 3 inches inside the Sentra would have put it under water.

RE: Rear mounted bikes

It does not say how much weight in can carry. I would not expect it to be able to carry a big motorcycle. One or two bicycles should be fine. Somewhere in between is the point of failure.

RE: Fallout from dealership collapse

My two observations/thoughts:
1. It seems pretty clear to me that the factory believes that you are the owner. After all they did perform some warranty work at your request. Save any paper work that documents this.
2. The factory has in place some sort of agreement with the dealer regarding money and collateral. If your TT is not the collateral for that money then you should be off the hook. If your TT is collateral then the dealership might be guilty of fraud.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

I do a backup nightly, full backup and verify 45 minutes, and it’s done while we have dinner. I do 6 separate dailies, and one weekly no incremental. I can restore and only loose the data that’s been entered since the prior night.
I would like to do that too, but I do not see how I can copy and verify a terabyte of data in 45 minutes. You must have a smaller system than I do.
Realistically, I only need to backup the C: partition frequently. My other partitions are user data, which has a much lower rate of change.
I hope that some day they add more drive letters. What comes after z:? I'm only down to around t: so far.

RE: How Much Does Typical Load Weigh?

Wow, if my backpack gets near 40#, I start to complain. ;)
After decades of backpacking, my older brother and I have determined that backpacking requires exactly one half pint of brandy per person per day.
As you get older, the ground gets harder and the brandy becomes even more important.
My pack weighs a lot less coming out than it does going in.

RE: First time poster looking for some help

Define the options you think you want or need.
Our criteria was:
had to fold down to fit in a garage, not more than 19 feet long
had to sleep 6
shower
toilet
no fabric walls
water heater
stove
oven
fridge
40 gallon fresh water
Once I had the specs on what I wanted, the list of vendors was very short.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

I gave up on backups a long time ago out of frustration, I just always image the entire partition.
The flaw that turned me off was that the few that I looked at were very poor in their restore capability.
Once you take a full image copy, after that you should only be taking incrementals. If the file or files that you want to restore are kn the incrementals, then there is no reason to be mounting the original full image. This is a reall bummer when the image is damaged but the incremetas are good.
Perhaps they have all gotten smarter and I should revist them again.

RE: Bootable backup drive?

I use partition magic to partition my drives and make copies. I boot it from floppy.
I never store any user data on c:, that is reserved for the OS and installed applications. I can restore c: and not lose anything.
PQMagic will support copy to/from USB external drives.
